Youtube Updates Youtube Music for Smart TVs

YouTube is updating the YouTube Music app. These updates include the apps for Android TV OS and the new Chromecast with Google TV.

YouTube Music and Smart TVs

In a blog post, YouTube said they plan to release these new updates for YouTube TV. If you’re using a smart TV, you can now play your liked songs and saved playlists in your libraries. Just go to the YouTube Music tab within your YouTube TV app. The updates also add new playlist artwork and album visuals.

The company adds that they want to add more features to YouTube Music. In the future, YouTube said YouTube Music Premium users can still listen to music even after closing the app.

More Changes

If you’re using an Android TV, you can go to your library to play your music uploads. You’ll also see a new interface that would show you the artist’s name and a playback progress bar. If your device has an Android TV home screen, your YouTube Music app will have a new row to make your browsing easier.

The Future of YouTube Music

YouTube Music is now two years old. Since its 2018 launch, the app has updated the service several times on several platforms. One recent update includes the ability for free users to cast music to speakers. Another is the ability for Google Music users to transfer songs to YouTube Music.

YouTube Music will soon replace Google Music, so you can expect more changes to come.

Now Lets YouTube Premium Subscribers Test New Features

The YouTube Premium Subscribers can test YouTube’s planned new features. You’ll also have access to YouTube’s experimental features down the line. In the past, Google picked random users to beta test new features.

YouTube Premium and Beta Testing

Android Central reported that YouTube would grant its Premium subscribers access to the streaming site’s new features. This news also appeared on YouTube’s experimental page. On the page, YouTube said users could share feedback on new features. Moreover, the site will now ask you to sign up for YouTube Premium if you want access to the new features.

New YouTube Features

According to The Verge, Premium subscribers can test watching sound videos and seeking on YouTube for iOS. For Chrome users, you can try voice-searching YouTube videos on the website. Moreover, you can also try filtering topics by language. While this access should excite users, YouTube says users only have access for a limited time.

Android Central guesses that forcing people to sign up for YouTube Premium to get the new features should help YouTube get more paying users.

Should I Get YouTube Premium?

If you want to grab YouTube Premium, you’ll have to pay $11.99 a month. With your subscription, you can enjoy ad-free videos, background playback, and full access to YouTube Music. If you’re still on the fence, being able to try new YouTube features might push you over the edge.

Youtube Brings Back Human Moderators to Fix AI Mistakes

During the pandemic, YouTube had to relieve its human moderators. Now, though, YouTube is bringing them back to correct the errors by their AI replacements. The new AI moderators had flagged or removed content by mistake.

YouTube Content Moderation

The company told The Financial Times about the effects of AI moderation on their content. In the report, YouTube said that using AI drove up incorrect content removal or takedowns.

In March, YouTube had said that they would lean on their AI to flag or remove content. The AI moderators would delete content on hate speech or fake news.

How Many Videos Did YouTube’s AI Remove?

According to The Verge, YouTube’s AI deleted about 11 million videos between April and June. The machines doubled the site’s usual removal rate. In response, around 320,000 users appealed. As a result, the AI restored about half of the removed content.

This trend could imply that YouTube’s AI has become “over-zealous” in scouring for harmful videos. Along with other social media platforms, YouTube has faced pressure to crack down on hate speech and fake news. They all said that they needed to use AI and algorithms to weed them out.

Other AI Mistakes

In March, YouTube said that its AI had deleted comments that criticized the Chinese Communist Party. The company blamed an “error” in its systems for the deletions.

YouTube said that its AI had removed more than 50% of the 11 million videos without a single view. The AI had also removed more than 80% of the videos with fewer than ten views.

Google To Phase Out Google Play Music by December

Here’s some tough news for Google Play Music users. In its planned shift to YouTube Music, Google has announced it will phase out its music streaming app in December. With this slow phaseout, Google hopes to give more users time to accept and subscribe to YouTube Music. Or, if you’re still not interested, you could try Spotify instead.

Google Play Music Bites the Dust

In the Gizmodo report, Google gives users until December to transfer their downloaded songs to YouTube Music. However, users also have to act fast. The same report says that Google will end Play Music’s services before December. By October, you won’t be able to listen to any music on the app. You won’t be able to use its other services, either. If you’re from South Africa or New Zealand, your app will stop working by September.

At the end of August, users won’t be able to “pre-order, buy, upload, or download music” from Google’s app using its Music Manager.

Next Actions for Google Subscribers

Google is stopping services for Play Music because it wants users to migrate to YouTube Music. If you pay $10 a month for Google Play Music, maybe you’re considering the switch. However, if you decide you don’t like YouTube Music, you can ask Google to cancel your subscription in October for free.

What’s Next for Their Subscribers

Check your emails from time to time, since Google will be sending out news and info for their subscribers. Google had launched YouTube Music in 2018, but so far, it hasn’t upset Spotify or Apple Music.

TikTok Hype Over CeraVe Makes the Brand Recognizable Among GenZ

CeraVe, a L’Oreal-owned brand, has now a more rising popularity than ever, thanks to short form-video-sharing site TikTok.

Recommended brand

While the pandemic has hit hard on cosmetic products, however, skincare brands are still striving, as CNN Business noted. And CeraVe was marketed well as it is drawing more attention among Gen Z users (those who are born 1996 and above).

This can be attributed to 24-year old influencer Hyram Yarbro who have millions of followers in both YouTube and TikTok. Five million on TikTok alone with a total of over 148 million likes.

And in his skincare-focused social media he took to share his recommended skin treatment product, a cleanser from CeraVe. He is just among those personalities who are vouching for this more affordable line of skincare products, which has been in the business for 15 years already. Their products are usually around $10 to $35. And with TikTok, more are hyped about CeraVe.

From genuine support to sponsorship

According to cofounder of Cerave, Tom Allison, “We developed this brand with dermatologists as a therapeutic skincare line for them to recommend to patients with conditions like eczema, roacea, and acne.”

After Yarbro was seen to recommend their products, Allison admitted that they approached him months ago to further promote their products. Now, L’Oreal sponsors his TikTok and YouTube content, which is disclosed to be paid advertisements.

The influencer himself claimed that Gen Z are not all about “visual aesthetics of makeup” but are actually concerned about their “health, skincare, and researching the ingredients that go into products.”

Reaching new generation

CNN Business also reported that there was a video circulating TikTok about a Target employee replenishing CeraVe stocks on the shelves. In the comical footage, it was seen that the moment the products were available, fans of the influencer immediately grab them. Yarbro even remarked that CeraVe is not even a new brand, but his influence over Tiktok may have contributed to the brand reaching younger demographic.
