The coming launch dates of the PS5 and the Xbox Series X/S poses a hard question to gamers: which do you buy?
Launch seasons for next-gen consoles are always hard. Which console do I buy? Most new consoles have similar specs, and they can play most games. So, how do you decide which machine to grab?
First things first, you have to consider your budget. Both Sony and Microsoft offer cheaper consoles. Which console do you already own: the PS4 or Xbox One? If so, you might want to get their latest versions to cut the hassle of migrating accounts.

If you decide to buy the PS5, you’ll support the current king of gaming. Sony has already sold more than 110 million PS4s worldwide. The company also boasts of several critically acclaimed exclusive games, like The Last of Us Part II and God of War.
The PlayStation 5 can play games at true 4K resolution. With an 825GB SSD, the PS5 can also load games faster than the PS4 Pro. Regarding audio, the PS5 also supports 3D audio and spatial sound tech.
Moreover, you’ll also get the Dualsense controller. This new controller uses adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and a microphone. If you get the base model, you can play 4K Blu-rays, too.
Meanwhile, the Xbox Series X can also run games at true 4K resolution and 120fps. Your games also get realistic lighting due to Direct X raytracing. With its 1TB SSD, the Xbox Series X can also store and load most next-gen games.
You might also want to try Microsoft’s Game Pass. If your Xbox library dates back to the original Xbox, you should get the new console. The Xbox Series X will play nearly all of your older Xbox games.

Both Microsoft and Sony announced that their next-gen consoles will offer Apple TV on launch day, along with support for last-gen consoles.
Your next-gen video game consoles might just become your next all-in-one home entertainment hub. A new report said that both the new Xbox and the PS5 would have Apple TV on launch day.
Gizmodo reports that this news is a big deal. Today, Microsoft announced that Xbox Series X and S would have Apple TV on launch day. For the Xbox One, users will get Apple support on November 10.

On the other hand, Sony also announced that the PS5 would include Apple TV on launch day. At the same time, PS4 users will also enjoy the service on their last-gen console.
This news means that both Xbox and PS5 users can watch their bought content on their consoles. Moreover, they can also watch Apple+ originals along with their subscribed channels.
In the past year, Apple had begun beefing up its Apple content library. First, it offered subscription bundlesto Showtime and CBS All Access programming. The company also snatched up all sorts of films to expand its content offerings.
At first, Apple limited Apple TV to Apple products. However, Gizmodo notes that the strategy wouldn’t work in the long run. So, Apple reached out to video game companies. The company wants its service on as many gadgets as possible.
If Apple can get Apple on all next-gen consoles, that would be great for all parties. Both Sony and Microsoft had described their machines as the fastest console ever made. If you can get your home entertainment apps on these lightning-fast consoles, you’d also replace your old devices.

Gamers may get one of the new next-gen consoles early this year. With Sony’s Playstation 5 releasing in the holidays, Microsoft looks like it’ll bump up the Xbox Series X to November.
TechSpot reports that Microsoft CFO Amy Hood gave a telling answer to Bloomberg reporter Dina Bass during an investor call. Bass had asked Hood about a possible November release date for the new Xbox. Then, Hood told her yes. Bass tweeted about their conversation here and here.
It was in response to a question from me and I said "new console" and "November holidays." Her answer was the single word "yes."

According to TechSpot, November release dates are usual for Microsoft. Dating back to the first Xbox in 2001, every Xbox console went on sale in November. Only the Xbox One S and the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition went into stores outside November.
TechSpot also reports rumors that Microsoft had wanted to launch the new Xbox in August to beat Sony. But COVID-19 ruined those plans.
If you have older Xbox consoles, Microsoft said that you could play all your games there on the Series X. Better yet, the company also noted that several more past games would run better on the new Xbox. Think of games running at “120 frames per second, and added HDR.” Some of your previous Xbox games could even go to 4K.
You might have to get a new TV to take advantage of the Series X’s specs, though. The Xbox Series X uses HDMI 2.1 technology, and only high-end TVs support it.
With a November release, you could buy the Xbox Series X on Black Friday. But it probably won’t have a discount.

Are you planning to rush the stores for the Xbox Series X this November? Before you buy, you might want to take a first look at Microsoft’s next-generation console. Microsoft is launching both the Xbox Series X on November 10 for $499.
The Verge offers a neat first look at the Xbox Series X. Measuring 5.9 inches wide and 11.8 inches tall, the Xbox Series X might be too big for your usual TV stand. You might have to rearrange your living room to fit the new console, especially if you have several other consoles around.

According to the Verge report, you could let it stand like a PC tower if you don’t feel like tucking it away. All of Microsoft’s promo materials show the Series X standing tall, anyway.
The Series X’s cheaper cousin, the Xbox Series S, measures 275mm tall and 63mm wide when standing. The Verge report also shows some side-by-side photos of the two consoles for comparison.
You can also find two USB ports at the rear of the console, sitting beside an Ethernet port. Also, in the back, you can find a storage expansion slot and an HDMI 2.1 port. Turning to the front, you can find one USB port and the console’s 4K Blu-ray drive. If you’re worried about your console overheating, you can check out the top of the Xbox to see its fan.
The Verge reports that the fan is supposed to be “whisper quiet,” but only testing out full review units could confirm that.
You can preorder the Xbox Series X beginning September 22, ahead of its official launch on November 10.

Now that Microsoft has confirmed the Xbox Series X’s cheaper and smaller cousin, the Series S, let’s look at how both next-gen consoles stack up to each other. Both consoles play all the same games, but the Series X should be more powerful.
If you’re looking to save money on a next-gen console, you could check out the Series S. The Xbox Series S costs only $300, while the Series X costs $500.
You can check out the Series S’ specs on the Xbox website. In terms of CPU power, both consoles have similar specs. Both consoles run on a Custom AMD Zen 2 CPU. However, the Series X’s CPU runs at 3.8 GHz or 3.66 GHz with Simultaneous Multithreading.

On the other hand, the Series S runs at 3.6 GHz or 3.4 GHz with Simultaneous Multithreading.
The Xbox Series X can store 1TB worth of games on its Custom NVME SSD, with writing speeds of either 2.4 GB/s for raw files or 4.8 GB/s for compressed ones. Meanwhile, Series S takes a big hit for storage. The console can only store 512GB worth of games. However, the Series S has the same writing speed as Series X.
In terms of performance, the Xbox Series X overtakes the Series S. The flagship Xbox targets a native 4K resolution, running games at 60 FPS, and even up to 120 FPS. In comparison, the Series S only targets a native 1440p resolution. However, both consoles can run games at 60 FPS.
The Xbox Series S will come to stores on November 10.

This year’s holiday season should be a treat for gamers around the world. Microsoft has revealed Thursday the new games coming to the Xbox Series X. If you’re excited to enter gaming’s next-gen, have a look at Microsoft’s new games.
Microsoft’s new flagship game is “the biggest and most ambitious Halo game ever created.” At their games showcase, the company showed gameplay footage that gave a taste of the Xbox Series X’s power. Master Chief’s adventures continue on Halo: Infinite, and you can start your campaign this holiday season.

Forza Motorsport looks to take advantage of Microsoft’s new Project xCloud service. The new Forza should also look better than previous games since it uses Xbox Series X’s powerful graphics specs, which can do ray-tracing. You’ll have to wait to get it, though, since Microsoft has yet to announce a release date.
After 16 years, Fable is coming back. Microsoft revealed that Fable will come to the Xbox Series X, but did not show much gameplay. The new game is the fourth in the RPG franchise. Once again, though, you’ll have to wait, since there’s no official release date yet. But once it’s out, you can play it on Xbox and PC.
If you’re expecting to spend all your money on the Xbox Series X alone, don’t worry. Many of these upcoming games will also be on Xbox Game Pass. Get the Game Pass, and you can try these games at lower prices.
A month before, Microsoft rival Sony had also announced the latest games exclusive to the Playstation 5.
