Tesla’s Chief Elon Musk Is Now the Fourth Richest Billionaire in the Planet

Bloomberg’s list of billionaires indicate Tesla’s Elon Musk is now the fourth richest in the world.

Tesla is further buoying the unconventional chief exec Elon Musk into the ranking of the wealthiest person on the planet, according to Bloomberg.

Richer Elon Musk 

The electric vehicle giant just boosted its shares by 11 percent at the start of this week. Per Bloomberg, Tesla’s stock closed a record high on Monday. This increase further added a $7.8 billion to Elon Musk. As a result, Musk also climbed the 500 richest people in the world.

The Tesla chief exec, which is now fourth in the list, is only behind Mark Zuckerberg. Per the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, he now surpassed French business tycoon and art enthusiast Bernard Arnault, the richest non-American in the rankings.

Tech and Wealth

Per Bloomberg’s index this week, Elon Musk is said to have a total net worth of $104 billion, just $7 billion shy of the founder of social media giant Mark Zuckerberg with $111 billion. Still on the top place is Amazon’s owner Jeff Bezos with $200 billion, followed by philanthropist Bill Gates with $125 billion net worth.

This updated rankings just further cement the place of the tech moguls in the list of wealthiest people. 

The skyrocket of Musk’s wealth is largely due to the boosting of Tesla’s share price. Bloomberg also noted that the chief exec’s wealth rose by $57 billion this year, making a second-record high jump among the publication’s index of richest people. The climb in Musk’s fortune for this year is just behind that of Bezos’, who saw a $73 billion growth in fortune for 2020. 

Elon Musk Valuable Tesla

Just earlier this year, Tesla’s market cap has even surpassed those of other most valuable carmakers in the world, including rival Toyota and other brands like Ford and BMW.

Tesla is dominating the electric vehicle market. However, Morgan Stanley analysts previously mentioned that Tesla’s stock could be overvalued. Although the analysts kept estimating a plunge in Tesla’s share, so far, it is yet to happen.

Back in July, Musk told Forbes that he does not mind about the figures of his fortune. Tesla’s chief exec added: “These numbers rise and fall, but what really matters is making great products that people love.”

Tesla Updates Autopilot to Detect Speed Limit Signs

Are you dreaming of owning a self-driving car? Tesla might have you covered. The electric carmaker is planning to release a software update that improves Autopilot’s ability to spot speed limit signs. Before, your Tesla might rely only on GPS, but the update should boost your car’s detection. Your vehicle won’t trap you into a ticket because it sped up too early.

Tesla Speed Assist

According to Electrek, Tesla has begun releasing the 2020.36 software update. The update contains several features. One of them is called “Speed Assist Improvements.” In the release notes, Tesla said that Speed Assist uses your car’s cameras to spot speed limit signs. If your vehicle spots these signs, it will alert you right away.

Just tap Controls, go to Autopilot, and hit Speed Limit to use the feature.

More New Tesla Features

Another new feature is a chime that alerts you once the traffic light you’re waiting for turns green. But the chime will wait if you’re behind another car. The chime would only sound once the car moves forward.

You might have to wait before the Tesla update reaches your car. Not only will it give you a smoother driving experience, but the update will also help inch you closer toward your dream of having a self-driving car.

The Self-Driving Tesla

Last April, Tesla announced that it would release a “Full Self-Driving System” for its cars later in the year. Tesla owners will have to join a $7,000 subscription program to avail of the system.

GM Gears For ‘All-Electric Future’ With New Cadillac EV

General Motors, a 111-year old carmaker company, revealed their brand new product, but this time it is not a traditional Cadillac car. And now, they are set to gear towards being a seller of EVs, a market currently dominated by Elon Musk-led Tesla.

Three years ago, GM first unveiled their plans of launching 20 new electric vehicles by 2023, per The Verge. And finally, they announced last Thursday their first attempt for their commitment of going to “an all-electric future,” with a brand new SUV from Cadillac that is fully electric.

GM’s first EV: what are the features?

Promising to go “beyond 300 miles” in terms of EV range on a single-charge, the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq also boasts of an enormous 33-inch curved LED screen in its interior. The first GM-made EV will also take a page from Tesla’s playbook by having a feature that could park on its own–and even get out of parking!–even without someone inside.

Moreover, the latest version of GM’s semi-autonomous driving system called Super Cruise will be included with the Lyriq. With Super Cruise, drivers may not hold the steering wheel during long travels on major roads. Meanwhile, the exterior will have an advanced lighting technology.

2022 release

Production of the midsize crossover will start in 2022. There is no price tag attached to the model yet. However, GM mentioned it would compete with its peers in the luxury SUVs club, including gasoline-fueled ones. It will be first sold in China, where the EV market is huge. The US will then follow shortly after.

‘All-electric future’

During a news conference, president of Cadillac, Steve Carlisle, said: “It marks a turning point for the brand, a pivot for the brand, an opportunity to regain momentum and position the Cadillac brand for its next chapter.”

The automaker intends to shift the Cadillac brand into an all-electric vehicle by the end of the decade. Lyriq is just the beginning in GM’s plans of expanding their electric vehicle plans. They also intend to push for EV selling globally.

“Lyriq is the cornerstone upon which we are going to build the future,” Carlisle said. He also mentioned, “Our goal is to lead. No excuses, no apologies.”

What Is “GigaTexas”, Tesla’s New Plant?

Wired reports that the new factory is called “GigaTexas.” The same report said that this new factory would use up 2,000 acres on a site near Austin. For future workers, they can drive 15 minutes from downtown Austin to the plant. From the airport, they can drive 5 minutes.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk declared to investors that the new plant would be friendly to the environment. He said there would be “birds in the trees, butterflies, fish in the stream.

Tesla to Build New Car Models in “GigaTexas”

Tesla plans to build new car models in “GigaTexas.” From the plant will come the Cybertruck and Semi, which will debut in 2021. Tesla will also produce more Model 3 sedans and Model Y SUVs for the Eastern US market. With the opening of a new plant, more jobs will also be available. Texas Governor Greg Abbott said that this new plant would employ 5,000 workers. These jobs would also pay $15 an hour. Abbott added that Tesla would invest $1 billion in the latest factory.

“GigaTexas” adds to the many Tesla factories in the world. It joins factories in Fremont, California, and Shanghai. Tesla also plans to open another plant in Berlin next year.

Will “GigaTexas” Make Tesla Even More Money?

Now, Wired reports that Tesla is more valuable than both Toyota and Volkswagen combined, with a value of $300 billion. Tesla also made $140 million in quarterly profits for 2020.
