Launch seasons for next-gen consoles are always hard. Which console do I buy? Most new consoles have similar specs, and they can play most games. So, how do you decide which machine to grab?
First things first, you have to consider your budget. Both Sony and Microsoft offer cheaper consoles. Which console do you already own: the PS4 or Xbox One? If so, you might want to get their latest versions to cut the hassle of migrating accounts.

If you decide to buy the PS5, you’ll support the current king of gaming. Sony has already sold more than 110 million PS4s worldwide. The company also boasts of several critically acclaimed exclusive games, like The Last of Us Part II and God of War.
The PlayStation 5 can play games at true 4K resolution. With an 825GB SSD, the PS5 can also load games faster than the PS4 Pro. Regarding audio, the PS5 also supports 3D audio and spatial sound tech.
Moreover, you’ll also get the Dualsense controller. This new controller uses adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and a microphone. If you get the base model, you can play 4K Blu-rays, too.
Meanwhile, the Xbox Series X can also run games at true 4K resolution and 120fps. Your games also get realistic lighting due to Direct X raytracing. With its 1TB SSD, the Xbox Series X can also store and load most next-gen games.
You might also want to try Microsoft’s Game Pass. If your Xbox library dates back to the original Xbox, you should get the new console. The Xbox Series X will play nearly all of your older Xbox games.

Insomniac Games announced that it will release a patch to allow gamers to export their PS4 saves of Spider-Man Remastered to the PS5.
If you’re worried that you can’t export your PS4 saves to your PS5 version of Spider-Man Remastered, Insomniac Games has your back. The games company said that it would release a patch for this concern. This patch would let you export your PS4 save files to the PS5.
In a tweet, Insomniac Games said that it had heard gamers’ concerns. According to Insomniac, gamers can export Spider-Man Remastered save files from the PS4 to the PS5. Moreover, the patch will add three new suits to the PS4 version of Spider-Man Remastered.

Look forward to the patch to drop around Thanksgiving. For gamers outside the United States, you can expect the patch by November 26.
Spider-Man Remastered will launch together with the PS5 on November 12. Initially, Insomniac Games would not let gamers export save files from their PS4 games. However, the company has heard gamers’ requests and decided to grant them.
Kotaku reports that Sony has a problem with exporting save files from one console to another. On the other hand, Microsoft doesn’t have this problem. Microsoft’s Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One use the Smart Delivery feature to export saves. With Smart Delivery, you can save files from your Xbox One to your next-gen Xbox without breaking a sweat.
For Sony, though, only Spider-Man Remastered seems to embrace the idea of exporting saves.

The next-gen version of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will take up at least 130GB of space on your PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
If you own a Call of Duty game on console, you already know the games are enormous. They get even bigger when you install updates. For next-gen consoles, though, get ready to upgrade your internet plans. The latest Call of Duty would be even larger on the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
Kotaku reports that the latest Call of Duty, Black Ops: Cold War, would take up more space on next-gen consoles. The report cites Activision, which reveals how much space you’ll need to pre-load the game. If you plan to buy the game, here’s what you need to know:
That’s a lot of space. If you want to buy this game, prepare to set aside some hard drive space. Moreover, if you plan to buy a digital copy, get a faster connection to download this beast.
According to Kotaku, Black Ops: Cold War on next-gen is bigger by 40 GB than its current-gen version. That’s still a mammoth game. For example, Spider-Man: Miles Morales on the PS5 is only 50 GB.

If you’re on console, you can uninstall game modes to reduce the file size. On the other hand, PC players can uninstall everything but the multiplayer mode. That would leave them with a 35 GB install. Moreover, they can forgo ultra-graphics to get a total of 82 GB.
However, PC gamers should free up at least 250 GB of space if they want to install everything.

Your next-gen video game consoles might just become your next all-in-one home entertainment hub. A new report said that both the new Xbox and the PS5 would have Apple TV on launch day.
Gizmodo reports that this news is a big deal. Today, Microsoft announced that Xbox Series X and S would have Apple TV on launch day. For the Xbox One, users will get Apple support on November 10.
Apple TV will be avail for the Xbox Series X and S models right out of the gate. https://t.co/4k87Yg5rvP

On the other hand, Sony also announced that the PS5 would include Apple TV on launch day. At the same time, PS4 users will also enjoy the service on their last-gen console.
This news means that both Xbox and PS5 users can watch their bought content on their consoles. Moreover, they can also watch Apple+ originals along with their subscribed channels.
In the past year, Apple had begun beefing up its Apple content library. First, it offered subscription bundlesto Showtime and CBS All Access programming. The company also snatched up all sorts of films to expand its content offerings.
At first, Apple limited Apple TV to Apple products. However, Gizmodo notes that the strategy wouldn’t work in the long run. So, Apple reached out to video game companies. The company wants its service on as many gadgets as possible.
If Apple can get Apple on all next-gen consoles, that would be great for all parties. Both Sony and Microsoft had described their machines as the fastest console ever made. If you can get your home entertainment apps on these lightning-fast consoles, you’d also replace your old devices.

Sony has announced a surge in revenue and profit from PlayStation 4 sales ahead of the PS5’s November launch.
As the PlayStation 4 slowly drives off to the sunset, Sony’s gaming division continues to rake in the profits. The Japanese company has posted PlayStation revenue of 507 million yen, or more or less $4.9 billion. Moreover, the company also posted an operating profit of 105 trillion yen, or more or less $1 billion. These numbers came in during the July-September quarter.
The Verge reports that these numbers represent an increase of 52% and 40% for Sony’s revenue and profits, respectively, over the same period in 2019. Moreover, this increase doesn’t usually happen ahead of the release of a new console. Sony is launching the PS5 in November, after all.
Sony admits that its profits and revenue took a hit. Rising costs dented its profits, while lower PS4 sales cut its income. However, this year, more people bought digital games and subscribed to PlayStation Plus. These sales made up for the gaps.
For the quarter, Sony released its best-selling title, Ghosts of Tsushima. The open-world samurai action-adventure sold 2.4 million copies in just three days during its July release. Moreover, the game is now Sony’s fastest-selling new PlayStation IP.
By the end of March 31, Sony expects to make 2.6 trillion yen in revenue and 300 billion yen in profit. These numbers would mark a 26% rise in both streams.
In the short-term, Sony might only earn limited revenue if it can’t manufacture enough PS5 units. SIE chief Jim Ryan told Reuters that the PS5 enjoys a “very considerable demand.” Ryan said that people who want to buy a PS5 might not get one on launch day.

The PS5 might become your new all-in-one home entertainment console. On Thursday, Sony confirmed that several streaming apps would be available on the PS5 upon its November 12 launch.
In a blog post, Sony confirmed that the PS5 would have a bunch apps. However, not all streaming apps will be on the console. The Verge reports that HBO Max will be absent from the PS5. Notably, HBO Max is still facing contract disputes with Amazon and Roku over putting the app on their platforms.

However, the anime streaming site Crunchyroll will be on the PS5. Both Crunchyroll and HBO operate under the same parent company.
If you buy the PS5 upon launch, you’ll get these streaming apps:
With these apps, you won’t get tired of your PS5 even after you’ve played all your games.
Sony has also released photos of the PS5 Media Remote. According to the company, four of the remote’s buttons would be launch buttons for Netflix, Disney Plus, Spotify, and YouTube. However, this remote doesn’t come in the PS5 box. You’ll have to head to Target and buy the remote for $30. Other retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, and Gamestop have run out of stock.
With the PS5, Sony may have redefined home entertainment.

If you’re curious about what the PS5’s insides look like, look no further. Sony has released a video of a PS5 teardown. During the seven-minute teardown, Sony’s Yasuhiro Ootori guides you through the new hardware.
The Verge reports that the PS5 has removable sides. Moreover, the console could expel air through the console’s entire rear. If you want to sit your on its side, you can remove the screw at the console’s base. Then, just turn your console over and clip the screw on the side.

You can also slide off the white panels on both sides of the console. If you do, you’ll see the main cooling fan, sitting at the top. This fan draws air from either side. If you’re afraid of dust getting into your machine, the PS5 has two dust catchers. Just vacuum out the dust through a pair of holes.
The teardown also gives you a look at the expandable storage. Once you remove the side panels, you’ll see the M.2 slot for extra storage. If you buy a PS5, you can get PCI3 4.0 drives to get extra storage.
A lot of the PS5’s parts are removable. You can remove the Blu-ray drive and the 350-watt power supply. You also have easy access to the console’s processor, memory, and SSD sections. For cooling, you can watch these first videos to check out the PS5’s cooling system.
If all this excites you, then head to your nearest store on November 12 to buy the PS5 for $499. If you want to know more about the PS5, watch the full teardown here.

Both Sony and Microsoft are releasing digital-only versions of their next-gen consoles. It’s the PS5 Digital Edition for Sony, while for Microsoft, it’s the Xbox Series S. While digital-only consoles are cheaper, they do come with hidden costs.
Lifehacker says that most PS5 and Xbox Series X games need at least 50GB of storage, with some gameseven coming at 100GBs. Moreover, massive games should take up even more SSD space. If you buy a digital-only console, you can store your games only on its internal SSD drive.
If you want to build a vast game library, you’ll need to upgrade your console’s SSD drive. The only problem is that new SSD drives are costly, too. For the PS5, compatible 1TB SSD drives might cost around $230. On the other hand, 1TB SSD drives for the Xbox Series X and S could cost about $220.
Even if you use an external HDD for your next-gen console, you can’t play the latest next-gen games from those drives. You can only run old PS4 or Xbox One and 360 games from external drives.
However, you can move your PS5/Xbox Series X/S game data to an external drive if you want to clear out your SSD.
Since you own a digital-only console, you’ll need to download all your games. You can only install the games after downloading them. As huge as all next-gen games should be, you’ll need decent internet to download them quickly. You’ll also need to consider your ISP’s data caps if you buy a digital-only console.
So, before going all-in on digital-only consoles, you need to think hard about the long-term costs.

The Verge adds that the photos also show how the PS5 should cool itself. While trying out the console, 4gamer noted that they did not hear its fans and did not feel it heating up.
According to The Verge, the Japanese testers also found a mysterious silver latch near the top-right portion of the PS5. They guess that the latch should play a role in the PS5’s extended storage, using SSD drives. Maybe you could pull out the latch to reveal the PS5’s hidden SSD drive. However, Sony has not confirmed how the PS5’s extended storage works.
The PS5 is big, and here are some photos to prove it. Looking at the pictures, you might have to clear some space on your TV stand to fit your hulking new console.
The Japanese YouTubers and magazines also got to test out the new DualSense controller. Among the controller’s new features are the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. With the new triggers, you can adjust trigger resistance for certain gameplay effects. The DualSense also has a microphone and a USB-C.
In terms of UI, you can check out Sony’s PS5 UI teaser here.

With Sony announcing a November PS5 release, the company has also begun pre-orders for the new console. However, the pre-orders quickly became chaotic. Global retailers accepted pre-orders at different times, causing a massive mess for gamers racing for the PS5.
Sony has apologized for the confusion.
Kotaku reports that the mess began on September 16, right after Sony played its PS5 showcase video. First, Sony said that pre-orders would start as early as September 17. However, Walmart and other stores had different ideas.
These stores activated pre-orders as soon as Sony’s showcase ended. Seeing this opening, thousands of people flocked to these stores. Stocks quickly ran out, which sent people scurrying to other online stores. Moreover, Sony stayed quiet about what was going on.
Up to now, people are still looking to pre-order a PS5.
On September 20, Sony finally issued an apology. In a tweet, Sony admitted that they could have done a better job with the pre-orders. Sony said it would give more PS5 stocks to retailers for pre-order.

In response to the Sony fiasco, Microsoft said they would start pre-orders for the Xbox Series X and S at an exact time. The consoles would launch on November 20.
Meanwhile, the PS5 is launching on November 12, in two editions. One is the main edition, with a disc drive, which should cost $499. The other model is the digital-only version, costing $299.
