LoL: Everything We Know About Wild Rift 2021

With more and more players able to get their hands on League of Legends mobile ahead of its 2021 full release.

So far, players across Asia and Europe have got their hands on Wild Rift during its closed beta and now open beta phases. In this article, you’ll find all the latest information about the mobile version of League of legends.

Wild Rift price and release date

Like League of Legends for PC, the mobile version will be a free-to-play game. The game will be supported by in-app purchases of skins and cosmetics. You’ll also be able to purchase champions as you do now on PC with in-game currency and paid currency. The games won’t share any cross-purchase, however, with the two games operating as separate titles.

As for the release date, we know that North America will finally join the open beta in March of 2021, though a full release is still just scheduled for this year. It’s certainly likely that a full release will follow quickly after the North American release, with the game then available to almost everyone.

What are the Wild Rift Mobile specs?

Specs for the game have changed slightly since beta. With the release, the game now requires a four-core chipset for Android and 1280×720. Over on iPhone, you’ll need an iPhone 7 or above as of now to get the game running.

Originally, the below specs were thought to be enough and that may well be the case once the game is better optimized on Android:

  • 1.5GB RAM
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor
  • Adreno 306 GPU
  • 32-big Android processors

Will Wild Rift Have Ranked Play?

League of Legends champion Yasuo appears

One thing we know for sure is that Wild Rift will feature a ranked mode similar to that of its PC counterpart. It will feature all the same ranks as on PC with one new addition, Emerald, which will appear between Platinum and Diamond. The game will also feature similar seasonal rewards as we see currently in the PC client.

Riot Games went into more detail in a recent development update, which you can watch below.

The game features a dual-stick layout on mobile, but the mechanics remain essentially the same as League of Legends on PC. Early gameplay shows that the left stick will be used to move your character, while the right stick will be used for ability use.

Some abilities and ultimates will be slightly altered. Abilities like Ezreal and Ashe R, for example, become “point-and-click” ultimates rather than straight-line skill-shots. This is just one example of changes, but the basic idea is that gameplay is being sped up to make the game more suitable for mobile.

Items have also seen some slight changes. Mostly to active items, which will now work more like current boot enchantments on the PC version. Each player will be given the choice of one “on-use” enchantment per game. This means enchantments from items such as Zhonya’s Hourglass status, Quicksilver Sash’s CC removal, or the movement speed increase from Righteous Glory, etc.

The main takeaway is this; Wild Rift is a much faster game on mobile than it will be on PC, with games lasting about as long as an ARAM match. If ARAM was ever added to Wild Rift in the future, it could be a 10-minute slugfest with one tower and starting at level 10.

What Champions are in Wild Rift?

With over 170 champions to move to mobile, Riot Games has quite the task on their hands. The list of champions is constantly changing, so we suggest taking a look at the official champion page to keep up to date. Riot Games does, however, seem keen to get all the popular champions from the PC game into Wild Rift. We’ll likely see new release champions make the jump fairly quickly.

LoL: Best Champions To Play For Ranked 2021

Learn about the champions that can help you dominate the Rift and gain the rank you desire.

The 2021 ranked season is finally here after a couple of months of playing with the shiny, new items in the preseason. Whether you were disappointed with last season’s rank, you want to climb higher than ever before, or if you’re completely new to the game, the ranked grind is on. So if you want to beef up your champion pool to make sure you’re ready, here are our best picks to help you climb with each role!

Top Lane

The top lane is all about the 1v1, the island brawl. Sure, there are still some tanks that hold the lane down as rocks for the team, and some other, weirder picks that pop up once in a while. As such, these choices are focused on being able to win your matchups and have clear win conditions afterward.

  1. Camille
  2. Darius
  3. Shen

The first champion that should be in top laners’ repertoire is Camille. Camille is very strong and has a bit of everything in her kit. Mobility, damage, sustain and utility with stuns and a fantastic lockdown with her ult. She can bully some lanes early but also scales like an absolute monster. Regardless of if you have to team fight or split push to win, Camille offers tools for every game and win condition. Because of this, she’s a solid pick and reliable like no other.

Second is Darius, a champ that strikes fear into the hearts of all top laners. With Ghost and Flash, he can dominate the lane phase and kill enemies that don’t respect his insane damage early on. He’s a great snowball champion and, as everyone knows, can completely take over games. It should be noted though that he’s more of a low ELO stomper and requires more skill to pull off at higher ranks. Still, Darius is a great champion to learn.

Last off is a more tame, tanky member; Shen. While Shen isn’t always in the meta, a skilled Shen player will bring his team many victories. Shen has strong dueling potential early on and, with the right itemization, he can continue being a damage threat if need be, but most players usually opt to go for tankier itemization options. Because of his ultimate, Stand United, he can easily join fights from anywhere, meaning he can have early impact and split push later with no worries about joining his team at the critical moment.

Honorable mentions:

  • Aatrox
  • Malphite
  • Renekton
  • Volibear
  • Garen
  • Sion
  • Sett

Jungle

The jungle is arguably the most impactful role in solo queue. Making sure your laners are safe and sound while you kill your opponents is often easier said than done. If you’re ready to take on this task, these champions can help you snowball your lanes and yourself to victory.

  1. Olaf
  2. Nunu & Willump
  3. Karthus

First up is the ravenous barbarian himself, Olaf. Overall, he’s a pretty easy champion to play with a lot of the power in the early game. His jungle clear, dueling, and ganks are all pretty good, which is oh so important for having the necessary impact in the early game. Many champions simply can’t properly deal with Olaf in the first 15 minutes of the game, so Olaf can often get leads and Ragnarok his way to victory.

In the number two spot is the cute and cuddle duo of Nunu & Willump. Now, these two want to “snowball” the game like Olaf does, but more so with spam ganking and objective control, rather than dueling. Fortunately, they’re exceptional at this and provide a lot to any team with both of these things. In addition, Nunu & Willump offer more utility later on as a tank than Olaf does as a bruiser. This champion is great for those that want to help their team a lot.

The last jungle champion here is the opposite of a team player though. And that’s Karthus. While it isn’t always Karthus’ meta, the champion itself can rip through games in the right hands. People that can land his Q’s will find his early game doable, and with some lucky early kills, Karthus is a terror. Farming for late can put extra tension on your lanes but if you decide you want to have the carry pants, Karthus with his global, full-team-hitting ultimate is for you.

Honorable mentions:

  • Elise
  • Lee Sin
  • Hecarim
  • Kha’zix
  • Fiddlesticks
  • Graves

Mid Lane

The middle lane offers a ton of versatility in terms of champion picks and map rotations. As such, there’s a lot of possible champions or playstyles to play, but these ones will give you the best odds in the crazy world of solo queue.

  1. Orianna
  2. Akali
  3. Yasuo/Yone

As probably the most iconic mid pick in all of LoL’s history, Orianna holds the first spot here. She brings everything to the table a mage needs to, including wave clear, scaling, safety and high damage output. While Orianna has definitive counters, she can play pretty safely into most matchups. She can also be downright oppressive for opponents she outranges. With her ultimate, Orianna brings devastating team fighting prowess too.

At number two is perhaps the peskiest champion in all of League, Akali. In the past, Akali completely defined metas, and though she’s calmed down since then, she remains a solid pick. Her high damage as an assassin is the main draw, but her shroud and general mobility give her a distinct advantage over other picks. It might take a little while to master Akali, but once you do the champion is a fantastic tool to have in your arsenal.

League of Legends champion Yone stands holding two katanas under a night sky

It could seem strange to have two champions together in the same spot, but Yasuo and Yone do very similar things. Because of their similarities, it’s more of a preference into which champion you want to spend time learning, if not both. The thing is, both of them have a strong power spike at full crit, stellar dueling tools and game-changing team fight impact. These two also are mechanically difficult so some time is needed to become proficient at them too.

Honorable mentions:

  • Syndra
  • LeBlanc
  • Zoe
  • Pantheon
  • Galio
  • Ekko
  • Vladimir

ADC- Bot Lane

Perhaps the most feast-or-famine role, ADC’s are responsible for dealing out massive damage in skirmishes and team fights. With so many threats to the squishy marksmen champs, it’s not always easy to pull off the incredible carry performances, but you also have huge carry and snowball potential.

  1. Jhin
  2. Samira
  3. Ezreal

After the drastic item changes in preseason, a few champions benefitted more than most. Chief among them is Jhin, who has risen to popularity with items like Galeforce and Collector. Because of his synergy with the new items, he’s likely to be a solid meta pick throughout the season. Along with this, his kit has a built-in root and long-range ultimate to give him a tad more utility.

The splash art for League of Legends champion Samira

If dueling and flashiness are more your style, then Samira might be more in your wheelhouse. The outplay potential this champion has is incredibly high and she’s rewarded for skilled play. Samira has a strong laning phase if accompanied by a CC heavy support, but better yet, her ultimate can rip through an entire team. Overall, she’s super fun, flashy and effective as a pure killing machine.

Third on the ADC list is a champion that, no matter what, has a spot in the meta; Ezreal. Unlike the previous two recommendations, Ezreal isn’t an insane damage threat but the value an Ezreal brings is stability. He can adjust his playstyle to be passive or aggressive depending on the game state and has fantastic scaling. Even if he isn’t the best champ at the time, Ezreal is a stable pick for any ADC player to be familiar with.

Honorable mentions:

  • Kai’Sa
  • Miss Fortune
  • Vayne
  • Lucian
  • Ashe
  • Tristana

Support- Bot Lane

Supports never get the love they deserve but their role on a team is nevertheless required. Vision, CC, peel, even damage in some cases; supports can totally carry games themselves. Here are a few that will consistently give you and your team the tools to gain leads and close games.

  1. Thresh
  2. Leona
  3. Morgana

Thresh is up first, as he’s a champion with a ton of unique tools in his kit. With his ranged autos, non-committal hook and lantern, he can play lanes safely if need be, but of course, it’s much better for him if he is enabled to be aggressive, as hitting a Death Sentence hook is often a true death sentence. Thresh generally pairs well with any ADC and is good at any stage in the game.

League of Legends champion Lunar Eclipse Leona

Then is Leona, the all-in queen. Leona boasts an incredible amount of CC and some of the strongest engage in the game. In the world of solo queue, she thrives because she can set up ganks, find kills in lane, influence skirmishes and find game-changing late-game engages. Simple yet effective, Leona is a perfect pick for those who have that all-in mentality and want the tools to make big plays.

Last but not least is Morgana. Like Thresh or Leona, Morgana has CC in her kit and decent engage options. However, she has the Black Shield at her disposal, guarding her allies against CC and potentially swinging fights as a result. Plus she is able to build a bit more damage-oriented so those unfortunate enough to get hit by her Q suffer in her W. Morgana is very versatile and is a must for any support player to know.

Honorable mentions:

  • Lulu
  • Swain
  • Nautilus
  • Bard
  • Nami
  • Seraphine

LoL: Five LEC Rookies To Watch Out For In 2021

With 2020 now behind us, most rosters are now fully finalized. We take a look at five rookies to look out for in 2021.

With major changes to a lot of teams, we felt it was a good time to look at some of the changes. With so many major changes to look at, we decided to settle on just five. Special shoutout to Astralis, who’ve bought in a number of new players, none of whom make this list. Below you’ll find the players we think will be worth checking out, on the rosters that they should excel on.

írfan Berk “Armut” Tukek – MAD Lions

The young Turkish top laner was a hit with League of Legends fans at Worlds 2020. Despite his side ultimately not making it to the main event, he and SuperMassive turned heads by almost qualifying for the Group Stage. Armut was one of the main reasons people took notice of this team and his stock shot up once the season was over. With rumors aplenty, it was MAD Lions who would step up and bring Armut to the side, pairing him with another fellow Turkish League star as they look to build on 2020 success.

Pro LoL player írfan Berk “Armut” Tukek walking
Armut was one of the standout performers in the Worlds Play-In stage.

With MAD Lions making changes to the top lane and jungle for 2021, despite a strong showing in 2020, Armut could be the key to unlocking the potential of the MAD Lions roster. Which, at times, looked like a world-beating team. Sadly, they were unable to bring their regular-season form to Worlds, and, like Fnatic and Rogue, were ultimately disappointing. However, if they can build on that strength in 2021, MAD Lions could be a dominant force.

Javier “Elyoya” Prades – MAD Lions

MAD Lions is certainly going for a second bite of the apple as they again start a split with rookie talent. While Armut is the headline signing, Elyoya is not one to sleep on. Spending the majority of his two-year career with Movistar Riders, quickly moving from the Academy side to the starting roster, Elyoya has made the jump to the LEC in amazingly fast time.

Having played his first competitive game in March 2019 for GGaming, Elyoya will now find himself going up against the best of the best in the jungle that the LEC has to offer. He’ll have big shoes to fill as well. While Zhiqiang “Shad0w” Zhao wasn’t always the top performer on his team, he did make some notable performances. However, his showing at Worlds is likely one of the reasons MAD Lions looked to go elsewhere for 2021.

Kristian “TynX” Østergaard & Ersin “ Blue” Gören – SK Gaming

Another jungler heads to the LEC in the form of TynX. The often spoken of jungler is looking to follow in the footsteps of his fellow Danes as the next top LEC talent. Having kicked around the EU and Turkish scene since 2016, his performances in 2020 with LDLC OL finally saw a LEC team come knocking for TynX, as SK Gaming looks to make major changes for 2021.

He’ll be joined by Belgium born Blue in the mid lane, who’s spent the past three years impressing in the Turkish league with 1907 Fenerbahce. Having begun his career at Arctic Gaming in Europe, Blue quickly moved to the Fenerbahce Academy where he spent the first year of his career. 2019 saw him make the step up to the starting roster before finally making the switch to the LEC with SK Gaming.

Daniel “Dan” Hockley – Excel

Pro LoL player Daniel “Dan” Hockley smiling
Dan looks set to be the only British player in the LEC Spring Split.

Having spent the past two years at Fnatic Academy, Dan has finally made the step up to the LEC with his appearance at the 2021 LEC split with Excel Esports. Moving from one British organization to another, Dan is set to be the only starting British player on an LEC roster for 2021. With the region seemingly failing to produce talented players (though a wealth of coaches and casters), Dan has an entire region resting on his shoulders.

Having won multiple UK & Ireland titles with Fnatic, Dan joined Excel as a fairly low-key signing. Don’t be fooled, however. With the coaching staff at Excel Esports and young talent on the roster, Dan could excel in the LEC in Spring Split, especially with games likely to be played at home with LAN venues still unlikely for the start of 2021.
