You Can Still Reinstall Fortnite on Your iOS Devices

Epic Games’ battle against Apple and Google doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. Both Google and Apple have removed Fortnite from their app stores, triggering a lawsuit from Epic.

If you want to download Fortnite to your iOS device now, you’re out of luck. However, if you’ve already had the game but just deleted it, you can play it again, and even update it. You’ll have until they patch the game. You can do this because Apple cannot force its way into your device to delete apps.

How Do I Play Fortnite on My iPhone Again?

The Verge lists instructions on reinstall Fortnite to your phones. Check it out:

  1. Go to the App Store, and find the “My Purchases” section by clicking your Apple ID avatar.
  2. Once you’re in “My Purchases,” tap “purchased,” and then look for Fortnite from the list of your downloaded apps.
  3. When the Fortnite app appears, tap the cloud icon to begin downloading.

What Happens When I Install Fortnite?

In the process, the app will install 10GB worth of files into your phone, since it needs data from Epic Games’ servers. Once complete, though, you can play Fortnite on your iPhone again. If you’ve turned on Family Sharing, you can even install the game if one of your plan members had installed it before.

Epic Games vs. Apple

Epic Games earned Apple’s wrath by installing a direct payment system in Fortnite. This system allows players to buy the in-game currency V-bucks directly from Epic, instead of going through Apple. In response, Apple removed Fortnite from the App Store. The company even threatened to cut off Epic from its App Stores’ developer account and tools.

Epic Games Sues After Google Pulls Fortnite From Play Store

After suing Apple for pulling Fortnite from the App Store, Epic Games is doing the same to Google. Google had also dropped Fortnite from the Google Play Store, though gamers can still buy it on Android and the Samsung Galaxy Store.

However, Epic Games put in a new wrinkle in its Google lawsuit. In its suit, Epic accuses Google of forcing OnePlus to break a deal to pre-install Fortnite on their phones. Moreover, Epic also charges Google of forcing LG to do the same thing with their phones.

Google vs. Epic Games: OnePlus’ Fortnite Launcher

According to The Verge, OnePlus and Epic would have made a special Fortnite launcher that would install the game on OnePlus phones. When Google found out, it pushed OnePlus to abandon the deal. Google was worried that the launcher could bypass the Play Store.

This deal would have made the Fortnite launcher available worldwide, according to Epic. However, Google demanded OnePlus to break off the deal. Only OnePlus phones sold in India carry the launcher.

Google vs. Epic Games: Fortnite on LG Phones

Epic Games also accuses Google of doing the same thing with LG. Both Epic Games and LG had made a deal to install the Fortnite launcher on LG phones. However, Google stepped in again to demand LG break the deal.

Google said LG had to stop the deal because they had signed a contract with Google. This contract said LG should not allow “side downloading” on the Google Play Store this year.

Google & Apple vs. Epic Games

Apple pulled Fortnite from the App Store because Epic would have allowed gamers to pay for V-bucks directly to Epic Games. These lawsuits will force Google and Apple to deal with their antitrust issues.

Apple might be serious about not letting you play Fortnite on iOS anymore. After deleting the game from the App Store, Apple won’t even let you sign in to the game using your Apple ID. You’ll need to update your login information or risk getting shut out of the game.

Apple vs. Fortnite

Gizmodo reports that Apple won’t let users log in to Fortnite using their Apple ID starting from September 11. On Wednesday, Epic Games had tweeted out the news as well. The company also warned users of this change on its website. In the notice, Epic said that users would have to update their login credentials to keep playing Fortnite on iOS.

Apple’s Moves vs. Epic Games

Earlier, Apple had already kicked Fortnite out of the App Store. The company had responded to Epic Games’ attempt to bypass its 30% commission from in-app purchases. For Fortnite, the company had tried to let players pay them directly for V-bucks.

Apple had already filed a countersuit against Epic Games. The company said Epic’s moves threatened the “iOS ecosystem.”

What Can I Do to Keep Playing Fortnite on iOS?

Epic says that users who used to login to Fortnite with their Apple ID should update their primary login credentials right away. Or else, they’re going to get locked out of their accounts. If you’re still unsure what to do, check out more information on Epic’s website.

Epic Games Asks Court to Restore Fortnite to App Store

Epic Games is looking to fight back against Apple in court. In the first hearing, the judge had allowed Apple to terminate Epic’s iOS developer account. With the decision, Epic could not update Fortnite on iOS. Now, Epic has made a response.

Epic vs. Apple, Round 2

Gizmodo reports that Epic wants the court to let them put Fortnite back on the App Store. This request comes after Epic had skipped the game’s iOS and macOS version when it launched the latest chapter of Fortnite last week.

The company said that Fortnite’s absence on iOS would cause them a lot of trouble. Moreover, Epic is also asking the court to restore its iOS developer account.

In a statement, Epic also accused Apple of running a monopoly. The company also accused Apple of “trying to destroy its business.” Likewise, Epic said that taking a stand against Apple is necessary. They want to free consumers and developers from Apple’s restrictions on the App Store.

Apple’s Response

In response, Apple told Gizmodo that Epic Games had agreed to its App Store policy in the first place. The company said it did not coerce Epic to agree to their terms. Moreover, the relationship between the two companies led to a “successful business on the App Store.”

Apple added that they want to work with Epic Games to resolve all violations so that they could return Fortnite to the App Store.

Apple’s In-App Purchase

The whole issue started with Apple’s 30% cut from in-app purchases. Also, developers have to agree never to put in place other payment methods that bypass Apple. Epic had broken the rules by allowing direct payment on Fortnite on iOS and macOS.

Apple Says Epic Games Tried to Get Special Treatment for Fortnite

Apple has responded to Epic Games in their ongoing legal battle. After Epic Games sued Apple for removing Fortnite from the App Store, Apple filed a legal response to explain its decision. Now, Apple is charging Epic Games of trying to arrange a deal to get special treatment

Apple Responds in Court

CNBC reports that Apple wants the court to bar Epic Games from the App Store until they resolve the lawsuit. Apple SVP Phil Schiller said that Epic wanted to get special treatment in the App Store. They supported this claim with emails sent from Epic CEO Tim Sweeney. To make this deal, Epic had asked Apple for a “side letter” to get their special deal.

Apple’s Counter Charges

Apple also stressed that Fortnite’s removal from the App Store was all Epic’s fault. Epic had broken Apple’s policies. The company also said it didn’t deny Epic Games access to iOS.

Moreover, Apple said that Epic Games wanted special treatment for only themselves. The company had asked Apple to let Fortnite charge players for V-bucks through Epic’s platform, not Apple’s in-app purchases. The Fortnite maker also wanted to launch an Epic app store on the iPhone. Next, Schiller added that Sweeney had told him via email that Epic was going to break Apple’s payment rules.

Epic Games Responds

But then Sweeney countered Apple by producing his emails. Through his emails, Sweeney said that Apple was lying. He tweeted out one of his emails to Apple, which stated that Epic wants Apple to loosen its rules “for all developers.”

Apple had already threatened to terminate Epic’s developer account over their legal battle. In response, Epic continues to attack Apple’s reputation through Fortnite events like the “Free Fortnite Cup.”

Here’s How Much Data Your Online Games Use Hourly

If you’re a huge online gamer, you might be curious about how much data you’re using each time you play. Especially if you have a capped plan, you might need to manage your data.

Online Data Usage for Video Games

The website WhistleOut has made a list of online games, which include their data usage. Before the list, they also said gamers don’t have to worry about high data usage for games. Most modern titles eat up way less data than HD streaming on Netflix.

However, you should still want to check your data usage after a month. Data consumed by games do add up against your allowance.

How Much Data Do My Video Games Consume?

WhistleOut and Kotaku shared a list of online games and the data they consume. If you spend hours playing these games, you should budget your allowance according to their usage.

From highest to lowest, these games eat up:

  •     Destiny 2 – 300 MB/hr
  •     Counter-Strike: Global Offensive – 250 MB/hr
  •     Overwatch – 135 MB/hr
  •     DotA 2 – 135 MB/hr
  •     Warframe – 115 MB/hr
  •     Fortnite – 100 MB/hr
  •     Battlefield V – 100 MB/hr
  •     Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 – 80 MB/hr
  •     Team Fortress 2 – 80 MB/hr
  •     Rainbow Six Siege – 70 MB/hr
  •     Teamfight Tactics – 60 MB/hr
  •     Grand Theft Auto V Online – 60 MB/hr
  •     League of Legends – 45 MB/hr
  •     PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) – 40 MB/hr
  •     Call of Duty: World War II – 40 MB/hr
  •     World of Warcraft – 40 MB/hr
  •     Rocket League – 40 MB/hr
  •     Minecraft – 40 MB/hr
  •     Monster Hunter: World – 30 MB/hr
  •     Sea of Thieves – 30 MB/hr
  •     Final Fantasy XIV – 20 MB/hr
  •     Hearthstone – 3 MB/hr

Online Games and Internet Usage

Downloading games eat up more data than playing online games. If you’re on a data cap, you might pause your online games if you want to download new titles.

Apple users who still want to play Fortnite can play the game, but only with other Apple players. Epic Games confirmed that players on iOS or macOS would lose Fortnite’s cross-play multiplayer with Android devices. With this move, Fortnite is splitting into two games. This announcement comes after the first hearing of Epic’s lawsuit against Apple.

Epic Hits Back at Apple

According to the Verge, the new season of Fortnite drops on August 27. However, only Android players can update their games. Apple users will remain on the current version, and they can only play with fellow Apple users. Players on the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Android phones can play the new update with one another. Reportedly, the new Fortnite season will have a Marvel theme.

If you’re a Marvel fan and an Apple user, you might have to make a difficult choice.

Why Won’t Epic Update Fortnite on Apple?

After their first hearing Monday, the judge allowed Apple to keep Fortnite out of the App Store. On the other hand, the judge also let Epic Games keep access to the Unreal Engine and other iOS developer tools. The upcoming September 28 hearing could make these decisions stand for the duration of the trial.

Apple had said that Epic simply needs to comply with App Store guidelines to bring Fortnite back. If Epic does this, Apple will welcome Fortnite back with open arms. With this statement, Apple is laying the blame for Fortnite’s removal squarely on Epic’s feet.

Why Are Epic and Apple Fighting?

Apple had removed Fortnite because of Epic’s new direct payment option for the app. The company had wanted users to pay them directly instead of going through Apple’s in-app purchase system.

Fortnite’s New Update Won’t Come to iOS And macOS

Fortnite’s latest update won’t come to Apple devices, according to Epic Games’ latest statement. This news comes after the first hearing Monday on Epic’s lawsuit against Apple. For other devices, the Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 4 update comes out on August 27.

Epic’s Statement

In a statement, Epic Games confirms they will not work with Apple anytime soon. The company says that Apple wants them to continue using Apple’s payment policies. By refusing, Epic says they are fighting back against Apple’s monopoly on iOS payments. They had said that Apple’s monopoly stifles competition and raises prices for consumers.

Moreover, Epic said that consumers should have the right to install whatever apps they want. They should also install these apps from any source they want. For developers, they should also enjoy competition in a free and fair market.

Apple’s App Store Policies

For security reasons, Apple only lets users install apps from the App Store. Apple screens every app for malicious code or other harmful elements to protect the user. While it sounds extreme, this move does protect user data from theft or attacks from bad actors.

However, Apple’s rules force developers to stick to Apple alone. If they plan to upload a paid app or one with in-app purchases, they also have to give Apple a 30% commission. Once they agree to this deal, they also have to process all payments through Apple’s system. Apple gets its 30% first before it pays the developers.

The Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 4 Update

Only Android users can download the Fortnite update on August 27. They can get it from the Epic Games App and the Samsung Galaxy Store. Apple users also can’t download future updates.

Apple Moves To Cut Off Epic Games

The battle between Apple and Epic Games continues. Now, Apple is moving to cut off Epic from the App Store’s developer tools and accounts. If the company succeeds, Epic Games would no longer be able to upload Fortnite to the App Store.

Apple Fights Back

In a Twitter post, Epic Games said that Apple was terminating all their iOS and Mac developer accounts, effective August 28. Epic called this move “retaliation” by Apple. Earlier, the Fortnite creator had filed a lawsuit against Apple for removing the game from the App Store.

Likewise, Epic responded by updating its lawsuit. The company now wants the court to issue a temporary restraining order against Apple. In the order, the court will tell Apple not to remove Fortnite from the App Store.

Epic Games’ Response

Epic also wants the court to stop Apple from removing, or disabling, Fortnite from users’ iOS devices. The company also wants Apple not to cut them off from developer tools and accounts.

Apple is also planning to cut Epic’s access to the Unreal Engine, which they also offer third-party developers. In the lawsuit, Epic claimed that the Unreal Engine followed all App Store policies. Epic also said Apple did not say whether the Engine broke any App Store rules.

Based on Epic’s claims, Gizmodo said there might not be any good reason for Apple to remove Fortnite from both iOS and macOS. There might also be no good reason for Epic to lose access to developer tools.

Apple vs. Epic Games

Both Apple and Google removed Fortnite from their App Stores for instating a direct payment mode to Epic Games. This payment mode bypasses both companies’ 30% cut from in-app purchases. Epic sued Apple in response.

Google and Apple Drop Fortnite from their App Stores

Fortnite gamers will have to stick to consoles now, as both Apple and Google kicked out the mobile app from their stores. Apple had kicked out the game first, which triggered a lawsuit from Epic Games. Now, Google has followed suit.

Why Did Apple Drop Fortnite?

Gizmodo reports that Apple dropped Fortnite from the App Store because Epic Games tried to bypass Apple’s fees for its apps. The company charges app makers a 30% fee before they could sell apps on the App Store. Also, app makers have to make Apple their only payment option.

However, Epic Games bypassed Apple by offering an alternative payment mode in Fortnite. The company allowed Fortnite players to buy V-bucks directly from Epic, without going through Apple. Moreover, players could buy V-bucks at a 20% discount straight from Epic. V-bucks are Fortnite’s in-game currency that people buy with real money.

Apple’s guidelines say app makers offering in-app purchases cannot use a direct payment method.

Why Did Google Drop Fortnite?

Google dropped Fortnite from the Play Store for the same reason. Like Apple, Google also takes a 30% cut from in-app purchases. With Epic’s V-bucks move, Google found the company violated Play Store policies.

While the game is now impossible to install on iOS, the app remains available on Android. Gamers can still download the game on the Epic Games Android app, or from Samsung’s Galaxy Store.

Epic’s 20% V-bucks discount also applies to both stores.

Apple vs. Epic Games

This news comes after Apple faced antitrust charges about its App Store policies. If Epic Games succeeds with its lawsuit, it could make Apple relax its rules. Millions of players play Fortnite around the world, and Apple might not want to pick a fight with them.
