BOOM Esport's Mikoto

This is the latest addition to the 11k MMR bracket.

BOOM Esports is one of the most prominent teams in SEA, which is why it doesn’t come as a surprise its players are top tier. Today, Ralfi Fathur “Mikoto” Rahman became the first-ever 11K MMR player from Indonesia.

Despite the pandemic, the SEA powerhouse BOOM Esports had a pretty good year. Despite the fact that Dreamocel left the team, BOOM completely dominated their regional scene. Consequently, they received an invitation for the Upper Division of the Dota Pro Circuit League.

Needless to say, one of the biggest reasons behind their success was Mikoto. The Indonesian superstar has been a part of the team for nearly two years now and is overall an impressive player.

Besides being good in pro gams, the mid laner is, unsurprisingly, also an amazing pub player. He became the first-ever Indonesian player to break into the 11k MMR bracket. After he succeeded, the player announced it on his Instagram page. This accomplishment puts him alongside a select few others that reached 11k MMR.

Currently, BOOM Esports is doing okay in the DPC qualifiers. They won one series and lost another one, which means that they are currently sitting in fourth place. However, they are yet to play against some of the favorites, such as Fnatic and T1.

If you need more information about the DPC qualifiers, follow ESTNN. We do weekly updates where we cover everything that happened in each region.

We take a look at the latest tool you can use in Dota 2.

Dota 2 is an amazing game where you can find loads of fun, but there is one problem — the community. Similar to other MOBAs, Dota 2 has many toxic players that will do everything in their power to ruin the fun for others.

Valve didn’t do anything about this problem until two years ago when they finally started to realize it was an issue. Since then, there have been several updates trying to improve toxicity in the game. The latest attempt to make Dota 2 a better place is called the Overwatch Community Review. It should allow the community to regulate the negative behavior within the game.

The tool in Dota 2

Explaining the new tool is easier said than done, but you should think of it as an advanced report system. Once someone receives a report, the community will have the chance to review it. Following the changes, the report system is now divided into two. The first part includes the post-game reports (now, they only work for communication abuse).

The Overwatch report tool will also allow you to report someone from the scoreboard tab. Besides cheating and griefing, you can also report people for suspicious behavior. The latter will be a suitable option if you think that someone is cheating or using a bot.

Also Read: Three Offlane Heroes You Should Pick In 2021

If you are eligible to review a report, you will receive a notification below your profile picture. Depending on your judgment, you will either receive a positive or a negative score. If your score is too negative, you won’t be able to use this tool in the future.

Once you start reviewing a particular case, you can either choose guilty or not guilty. You will even have an option where you can’t make a judgment due to the fact there is not enough evidence. After you are done, you will have to send the information to Valve for their final decision.

Player from China playing Dota 2 DPC.

Week One of the DPC is a wrap for China, we take a look at how the games went down.

As the only region with the ability to host LAN events, Perfect World have really gone all out with their production for this first season of the DPC in China. Creating an entire “Dota 2 City” as a backdrop for the season.

The first week’s series were pretty impressive too. We take a look at how things played out.

Lower Division

CDEC Gaming showed they’ve got the teeth to make it to the Major with their Week One performance. They gave it their all during their first game against Xtreme, one of our two 3-game series in the Lower Division this week.
Their next match-up against Dragon was a much cleaner 2-0 sweep.

Dragon had a tough week all round, losing out in their second series against Royal Never Give Up’s fresh roster. RNG made it look easy, knocking out Game Two in just 26-minutes to lock in the win.

But RNG weren’t looking so sharp earlier in the week when they faced off against Sparking Arrow Gaming. They lost that series 0-2, and Sparking Arrow took home the victory in their only Week One match.

Upper Division

With teams like Vici, EHOME, Aster and PSG.LGD all facing off against one another – China’s Season 1 Upper Division certainly showcases the cream of the regions crop.  Throw in wildcards like Elephant and Invictus Gaming, and you’ve got yourself a wild first week of Dota.

DPL-CDA Professional League champs EHOME found themselves a nice easy run, with a 2-0 victory over Team MagMa. Vici Gaming also breezed through their first series against LZBS, who are off to a troubled start to the Season. They also lost to PSG.LGD in their second series this week.

One of the bigger surprises this week was Invictus Gaming’s victory over Elephant in another vicious three game series. Despite Elephant’s titan line-up of Somnus, Eurus and fy, Invictus managed to take the series 2-1. This was definitely a match-up to watch.

Highlight Series: PSG.LGD vs Team Aster

PSG.LGD also drew the two series straw in Week One of our round robins; and their second series against Aster proved to be a tougher slog than their earlier skirmish with LZBS.

And It’s impossible not to highlight it after the epic hold-out on the part of PSG.LGD.

Aster dominated Game One, with Monet’s Wraith King wracking up a mammoth 41k net worth. LGD brought it back for Game Two, securing themselves the gold lead in the mid-game and striding on to a 17-kill game win.
But Game Three proved to another problem, with Team Aster punishing and pummelling LGD for over 70-minutes.

There can be no denying Aster were at their prime during this match-up. If they can carry this momentum through the season, they’ll be a shoe-in for the Major.

The Sweden High Coast Team

High Coast is the newest organization that will try to get involved in the Dota 2 scene.

Even though it was formed in 2019, the Swedish esports organization High Coast Esports decided to try its luck in the Dota 2 world. However, instead of forming its own roster, High Coast decided to acquire Chicken Fighters. As you may know, the team will participate in the upcoming 2021 Dota Pro Circuit Europe Regional League Upper Division.

In case you’ve forgotten, Chicken Fighters was a part of Ninjas in Pyjamas until a few months ago. Unfortunately, the European organization decided to part ways with the team in November of 2020. This was expected because NiP wasn’t able to achieve much during the year. Due to COVID-19, the DPC was postponed, so we only got to see different online events.

As a result, some organizations couldn’t ensure their financial stability, so they had to make necessary changes. Sadly, NiP was one of these organizations that had to drop its Dota 2 lineup. There were rumors that NiP would acquire its former roster once again, but instead, the Swedish organization decided to step in.

Many Dota 2 fans may have not heard of this organization, but High Coast Esports has teams in various esports, such as CS:GO, Overwatch, FIFA, Rocket League, and Rainbow 6 Siege. Following the acquisition, the company now has a Dota 2 team as well.

The first challenge ahead of the team will be against OG. The two teams will play against each other on January 23 in the Upper Division of the DPC EU Regional League. Here is the team’s current roster:

  • Charlie “CharlieDota” Arat
  • Ondrej “Supream^” Starha
  • Rasmus “Chessie” Blomdin
  • Adrian “Era” Kryeziu
  • Andreas “Xibbe” Regnemalm

Dota Pro Circuit with ugraded changes.

Let’s take a look at some of the upcoming changes in Dota Pro Circuit 2.

The new Dota Pro Circuit has just begun. That’s why Valve decided it’s time to update the watch tab that you can find inside the clients. Now, it will give you access to all DPC events in the Upper and Lower Divisions.

The changes

The watch tab was always interesting, but after the changes, it is even better. Now it includes a few highlighted games that you can preview while you’re in Dota 2. What’s more, you can review the full schedule of all regions, including the live stream feed. You can even add certain teams to your favorites, which will help you follow them more closely.

The DPC app

If you want to watch your favorite team while you are on the go, you should definitely download the special Dota Pro Circuit app. It is available on Android and iOS and it no longer requires a Dota Plus subscription. This means that you can try it out for free.

Another interesting thing that we expect to see really soon is the team bundles. They will include things like special in-game effects, emotes, loading screens, and chat-wheel lines. What makes this bundle even more impressive is that everything is submitted by the teams themselves.

2020 was not the best year for Dota 2. However, there were several players that managed to reach 11,000 MMR, especially in the SEA region. We are just a few days until the new DPC begins, and it looks like we have another player in the 11K MMR club.

Fnatic’s carry player has always been considered as one of the best players in the region. That’s why it doesn’t come as a surprise that he managed to reach the 11k goal. In fact, some people expected him to do that earlier.

If you take a look at his Facebook page, you will see that he shared a picture with his MMR. What’s more, you can also see some of his strongest heroes, such as Slark, Faceless Void, and Morhpling.

It will be really interesting to see what will happen with Fnatic in the upcoming DPC. The team didn’t play a lot in 2020, but this doesn’t come as a surprise because there weren’t that many events in SEA.

The team received a direct invite for the upper division of the DPC League. This means that we will get the chance to watch them against TNC Predator, T1, BOOM Esports, and more.

Decider events for CIS & EU.

The EU and CIS decider tournaments start soon, here’s what you need to know.

As you may already know, this year’s Dota 2 Pro Circuit will run on an entirely new format. Instead of having loads of Minor events, Valve decided to completely remove them from the DPC. Now, each of the six regions has a unique, new regional league that will take place between each of the two Majors.

Read more: Valve Announce New 2021 DPC Seasons

These regional leagues last for six weeks and will determine which teams advance to the Majors. Following the announcements that took place a few days ago, four teams from each region have already received an invitation for the upper-division. Having said that, we will still have four more teams that will join them from the so-called decider tournament. This event starts in just a few days from now in two of the best Dota 2 regions – EU and CIS.

Europe

Europe’s qualifiers will start tomorrow, January 7, and will last until January 10. We will see eight good teams go head to head in a double-elimination bracket. Those who manage to reach the top four will advance to the Upper-Division. On the other hand, the bottom four teams will have to battle their opponents in the Lower Division.

At first glance, the team that has the biggest chances of winning is Alliance. Nikolay “Nikobaby” Nikolov and his teammates played really well throughout 2020. Sadly, COVID-19 prevented them from shining in the DPC, but this could change in 2021.

The second team that seems to be among the favorites is Mudgolems. Adrian “Fata” Trinks and his team shocked the world a few months ago by defeating some of the best teams in the region. Even though they haven’t played together that long, Mudgolems have proved that they are a force to be reckoned with.

Besides these two teams, we will also see the following teams:

  • Vikin.gg
  • Chicken Fighters
  • Spider Pigzs
  • Brame
  • Hippomaniacs
  • 5men

CIS

The next region that we will have the chance to watch is CIS. During 2020, CIS & EU were merged together, so we got to see plenty of action from those regions’ best teams. Starting on January 8, we will have four days of action, during which eight teams will be fighting for the Upper-Division.

Even though some people might think that Gambit Esports is the biggest favorite, we think that HellRaisers has to take the crown here. Following the recent changes and the addition of Roman “Resolut1ion” Fominok, HR is definitely one of the best teams in the region. The organization invested a lot of time into its new roster so it will be really interesting to see what will happen.

Of course, Gambit Esports has always been one of the most dominant teams in the region. Hence, they are definitely still among the favorites, even though their recent performances have not been the best.

Winstrike and B8 are also two names that have a chance to succeed. Danil “Dendi” Ishutin decided to completely rebuild his team’s roster, so hopefully, it should be able to go up against some of the best teams in the region.

If you want to know more information about these qualifiers or anything else about Dota 2, follow ESTNN.

The North American team.

Similar to every other Dota 2 region, the NA DPC Regional Qualifiers will start in just a few days.

2020 was a really bad year for the North American Dota 2 scene because there were hardly any tournaments. As a result, some of the best teams from the region were forced to compete in other regions, such as Europe. One of those teams is Evil Geniuses, a team among the best Dota 2 teams in the last couple of years.

Luckily, the team decided to return to NA, which is why it is no surprise they received a direct invitation to the DPC Regional League.

The Invited Teams

Similar to every other region in Dota, NA will have a total of 16 teams fighting in the Upper and Lower divisions. Four of them receive a direct invitation for the Upper Division, which means that they won’t have to go through the qualifiers.

In addition to Evil Geniuses, the other directly-invited teams are Quincy Crew, 4 Zoomers, and SADBOYS. The invitation of the last team on this list was definitely surprising, even though this team has two TI champions in it. Clinton “Fear” Loomis, Peter “ppd” Dager, and their teammates finished third in the BTS Pro Series Season 3.

Besides those four teams, there will be four more that will move to the Upper Division via the closed qualifiers. If you need more information about them, make sure to follow ESTNN.

Mushi, who is one of the most legendary SEA Dota 2 players, joined a new SEA Dota 2 team.

Last year was not the best for the SEA Dota 2 scene. Even though there were a few interesting online tournaments, most teams were unable to compete in some of the biggest events of the year.

Luckily, 2021 looks like it will be an amazing year. Besides the upcoming DPC, we’ve also learned that there is a new SEA Dota 2 team, Team SMG. It was created by JJ Lin, who is a famous Singaporean singer.

New Team

The newest Dota 2 team in SEA will include some of the best players in the region. JJ Lin happens to be a huge gaming fan, which is why his organization called Team Still Moving under Gunfire has various rosters in Arena of Valor, PUBG, and even Mobile Legends.

SMG will take part in the upcoming DPC qualifiers that start in just a few days. Besides Chai “Mushi” Yee and Michael “ninjaboogie” Ross, the team will also include:

  • Cheng “vtFaded” Jia Hao
  • Nea “Neah666” Campbell
  • Tue “ah fu” Soon Chuan

The first big challenge for the roster will be in the Closed Qualifiers that start on January 4. If SMG succeeds there, they will advance to the Upper Division. There, they will have to compete against the likes of Fnatic, T1, Boom Esports, and TNC Predator.

Dota 2: Valve Announce New 2021 DPC Seasons

Valve have finally broken the radio silence surrounding the fate of TI and the DPC.

2020 was a crazy year and it wasn’t any less crazy in the world of Dota 2. Following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in early 2020, all DPC Major and Minors were cancelled. While the DPC’s yearly main event, The International 10, was postponed.

Today Valve made an announcement regarding TI10 and the future of the DPC on their blog. And while a lot of our questions have been answered, there are still a few blanks to fill in.

New Regional Leagues

Valve first floated the idea of shifting the DPC away from its Major and Minor format last year. Today that becomes official. Starting January 2021, the DPC will be made up of competitive leagues based in geographical regions.

There are no ‘new’ regions, so to speak. With all the regional leagues announced already being home to major organizations and pro-players that have competed in the DPC previously. But there are some big changes, including removing Minors, and splitting the DPC season in two.

The new DPC will be spread over two seasons, with a Major for each season. Teams will compete for the top spots in their region, to secure a chance at a slot in the Major.

How many slots are available for the Majors?

EU and China each take home the most slots, which was pretty much expected; both regions are home to some of the strongest and oldest professional Dota 2 teams.

But SEA and SA fans were no doubt pleasantly surprised to see a boost to the number of slots available in their regions. Teams in SEA have long been overdue more chances at the top prize pool. While SA has become a burgeoning region for talent over the last few years, with Quincy Crew in particular putting up a solid performance throughout many of the small leagues and tournaments that cropped up through 2020.

Here’s the slots available for each Major;

  • EU: 4 Major slots
  • China: 4 Major slots
  • SEA: 3 Major slots
  • CIS:  3 Major slots
  • NA:  2 Major slots
  • SA:  2 Major slots

How does the seeding work?

Valve made the decision to ignore previous DPC results when working out the seeding in the new leagues. Instead, they’ll be selecting the top four teams in each region in the best form to directly qualify for the Upper division. Then a series of closed and open qualifiers will determine the remaining 12 teams in the Upper and Lower divisions.

According to Valve, the rationale behind this decision was twofold. Partly due to varied performance among teams when compared to previous DPC seasons, and partly because of the number of roster shuffles we saw through 2020.

Dates

The new DPC kicks off on January 18, and the schedule times for each region have already been laid out. According to Valve they revised the original schedule after fans and players provided feedback, “to make sure all match times fit the regions play and watch times as best as possible.”

Season 1 of the DPC will run from Jan 18 to Feb 28 for all regions except China. They’ll begin January 18 along with the rest of the leagues but will finish on March 14 due to a short break in the middle of their season. (Likely to accommodate the Chinese New Year holiday period.)

The first Major will be played from March 25 – April 4.

Season 2 will begin on April 13 and run through May 23, with the Major played from June 2 until June 13.

And that will take us right up to TI.

What’s happening with TI 10?

According to Valve’s blog, we can expect TI 10 to be held in Stockholm in August of 2021. Although assumedly this depends on public health advice and government regulations surrounding large gatherings.

With the coronavirus vaccine on the way to being available, Valve are no doubt hoping that things will be well under control by then. However with Sweden still recording record deaths and transmissions presently, there is still some uncertainty surrounding the choice. Valve will likely be keeping a close eye on Stockholm and Sweden’s recovery ahead of announcing official dates.

What about the 2020 prize pool?

There’s been no indication from Valve as to how the prize pool from 2020’s Battle Pass will be distributed yet either. 2020’s Battle Pass skyrocketed to $40 Million USD back in October. But with no TI to dish it out at, the fate of the prize pool is unknown.

Many fans are calling for Valve to redistribute that money to the T2/T3 scene to help with drawing new players and orgs to the game. Others are expecting that prizepool to get split between the regional leagues somehow.

Whatever is happening with the cold hard cash, Valve haven’t made the details clear yet.

What is clear is that the DPC is a wholly changed beast. And it’s sure going to be interesting to see how these changes play out when Season 1 kicks off.
